On Behalf of the River delta Unified School District,

I would like to Welcome Back our Students and Staff for the

2010-2011 school year!

As I write this letter, there is as usual very little information available on the adopted State budget and its impact on education.  Please know that the District will continue to provide the very best educational environment for both our students and staff.  We have tried to prepare for the worst-case scenario as far as the budget cuts that have been made.

I am excited to announce that Ms. Laura Uslan will be replacing Linda Costlow (retired) as principal of D. H. White Elementary School this year.  Laura is a parent in the district and is very excited to serve the district.  She brings with her many hears of administrative wisdom and experience.  We also welcome the following new teachers to the District:

              Christine Kelly              School Psychologist                 District

Jessica Sanders           Spanish                                  Rio Vista High School

Ian Fullmer                    Art                                         Delta High/Clarksburg Middle

Vong Xiong                   Math                                       Delta High/Clarksburg Middle

Nancy Vielhauer           Science/Math                           Rio Vista High School

Nicole Rosado              School Counselor                      Delta High School

Rosalee Ness                RSP                                         Rio Vista High School
Kimberly Ferriere          Special Education                      Rio Vista High School

We want to extend our congratulations to Sarah Sneed, Delta High School teacher, who was selected as the 2011 District Teacher of the Year.

In addition, the District wants to salute Bates Elementary School for the California Distinguished School Award received this last spring.  This is a remarkable accomplishment that only a handful of schools are eligible to receive statewide.

The new school year calendar is very similar to last year’s calendar. The first day of school for the students will be Monday August 16, 2010; starting earlier allows our high school students to finish their first semester and final exams before Christmas/Winter Break.

The maintenance crew and school custodians have worked very hard to prepare the school sites for the upcoming school year.  The New Ag building at Delta High School has been completed and staff will be moving in before school starts.  The bids on the Ag building at Rio Vista High have been processed and construction should begin in the next few months. The new Radio Rio Tower at Rio Vista High School should be completed in the next few months.  Thanks to the generosity of the Booster Club and the Interact Club, a new electronic marquee has been installed at Rio Vista High as well.  We have also increased the cafeteria space at Riverview to accommodate a single-lunch period for all students. The transition to keep the 5th graders at D. H. White Elementary has been completed.  Two classrooms received new carpet and books, and all desks and necessary supplies are in place.

Our technology infrastructure has been significantly upgraded and will provide better connectivity throughout the District. Food Service has computerized our cafeteria this year so the students will have personal identification numbers which will track their food purchases and allow parents to pre-pay for meals.  It will also alert parents when student accounts become low or empty.

If I can be of any assistance, or if you wish to speak with me regarding any District matter, please call the District Office at 707.374.1700 and make an appointment to speak with me.
